CEVA Logistics and BYD expand their global automotive logistics partnership
CEVA Logistics and Chinese automaker BYD are expanding their long-running logistics partnership to support BYD's growing international vehicle distribution network.
CEVA Logistics and BYD have announced an expansion of their global automotive logistics partnership, aimed at supporting the Chinese automaker's rapidly growing international footprint. The two companies have worked together for several years, and the new phase is designed to scale operations as BYD increases exports of electric and hybrid vehicles to markets across Europe, the Americas, Asia and beyond.
Scope of the expanded agreement
Under the deepened collaboration, CEVA Logistics will provide a broader range of supply chain services for BYD, including finished vehicle distribution, inbound parts logistics, warehousing and customs support. The two companies said the move is intended to create a more integrated end-to-end network that can absorb rising volumes without disrupting delivery times.
CEVA Logistics, part of the CMA CGM Group, has been positioning itself as a key partner for automakers transitioning to electric mobility. Tie-ups such as the one with BYD sit alongside other recent moves in the logistics sector, including CMA CGM's agreement to acquire FedEx's logistics unit for $1.4 billion, which is expected to strengthen the group's freight forwarding capability.
Why BYD needs more logistics muscle
BYD has overtaken several legacy automakers in global EV sales and is opening new assembly plants and sales subsidiaries in multiple regions. That growth has put pressure on its existing logistics setup, particularly for outbound shipments of finished cars and inbound flows of batteries and components.
Key priorities identified by the partners include:
- Faster port-to-dealer transport for finished vehicles across multiple continents.
- Greater visibility over parts shipments to support just-in-time production.
- Decarbonised transport options, including rail and sea solutions, to align with BYD's sustainability targets.
Broader leadership context
The expansion comes during a period of leadership change across the logistics industry. CEVA continues to refresh its executive team, while related supply chain firms are also investing in new technology leadership, as seen in moves such as Keller Logistics Group's appointment of Mel Hudson-Nowak as Chief Technology Officer. Both companies said they would share more details on operational milestones as the enlarged partnership rolls out over the coming quarters.
