CMA CGM Agrees $1.4 Billion Purchase of FedEx Contract Logistics Business
French shipping group CMA CGM has agreed to acquire FedEx's contract logistics unit for $1.4 billion, expanding its end-to-end supply chain footprint.

French shipping and logistics group CMA CGM has agreed to acquire FedEx's contract logistics business in a transaction valued at approximately $1.4 billion, marking one of the carrier's largest moves into end-to-end supply chain services.
What the deal covers
The acquisition targets FedEx's third-party logistics arm, which manages warehousing, distribution and value-added services for large corporate customers. By bringing those operations under its umbrella, CMA CGM is positioning itself to compete more directly with global integrated logistics providers that bundle ocean, air, road and contract services for clients.
Strategic context
CMA CGM has spent the past several years broadening its portfolio beyond container shipping, investing in air freight, road transport and inland logistics through its CEVA Logistics platform. Adding FedEx's contract logistics operations would deepen that footprint, particularly in regions where CEVA's network is less established.
Why FedEx is selling
FedEx has been reshaping its portfolio to focus on its core express parcel and freight networks, while streamlining slower-growth, capital-intensive units. A divestiture of contract logistics would:
- Free up capital for network investments and cost-reduction programmes.
- Allow FedEx to concentrate on integrated parcel and freight services.
- Hand a scalable contract logistics book to a buyer already expanding in the segment.
Outlook
The transaction is expected to close once customary regulatory approvals are secured. If completed, it would give CMA CGM a significantly larger base of long-term warehousing and distribution contracts and intensify competition in the global contract logistics market.
