CMA CGM agrees to acquire FedEx Supply Chain for $1.4 billion
French shipping group CMA CGM has announced a $1.4 billion deal to acquire FedEx's supply chain business, broadening CEVA Logistics' North American footprint.

French shipping and logistics conglomerate CMA CGM has agreed to purchase FedEx Supply Chain from FedEx Corporation for $1.4 billion. The deal, announced by both companies, would fold the contract logistics arm of FedEx into CMA CGM's existing logistics subsidiary, CEVA Logistics.
Strategic fit for CEVA Logistics
FedEx Supply Chain specialises in warehousing, distribution and value-added services for industries including retail, consumer goods and healthcare. By integrating these operations, CMA CGM aims to strengthen its end-to-end logistics offering, combining ocean, air, ground and now large-scale contract logistics under one group.
The acquisition is expected to expand CEVA's presence in North America significantly, adding distribution centres, a substantial workforce and long-standing customer relationships across the United States and Canada.
What the companies say
CMA CGM described the transaction as a step towards building a fully integrated global logistics provider. FedEx said the sale will allow it to sharpen focus on its core express delivery and parcel network, where competition from Amazon and other carriers has intensified.
Both companies indicated that the deal remains subject to customary regulatory approvals and is expected to close later this year.
Implications for the logistics sector
The agreement comes amid a wider wave of consolidation in third-party logistics, with major forwarders and shipping lines investing in technology, automation and warehousing capacity.
- It extends CMA CGM's land-based logistics presence into North America.
- It reinforces the trend of ocean carriers expanding into contract logistics.
- It allows FedEx to streamline around its core parcel and express operations.
